Best Donghua by Studio Shanghai Motion Magic
Shanghai Motion Magic is one of the leading digital content providers and manufacturers in China. Apart from donghua, the company and studio are also involved in production in other industries such as the culture and entertainment industry, multimedia, and more. Let's talk about CG Animation and see the best Chinese anime from Motion Magic. As time went on, Battle Through The Heavens was no longer the studio's sole face and slowly grew as it took on new projects every year. Best Works of Shanghai Motion Magic Anime Nonetheless, we still have quite a few titles under Motion Magic's belt right now, and let's check out which donghua we should add next to your watchlist. Well, here's a ranking of my favorites from Battle Through The Heavens based on the quality of production made by Motion Magic:
1. Battle Through Heaven
Doupo Cangqiong | Shanghai Motion Magic takes over the Donghua adaptation of Battle Through The Heavens season one special episode begins. The series has been the studio's signature work until its most recent season. Since Battle Through The Heavens has multiple seasons and special episodes, which one of them is a masterpiece of Motion Magic? Honestly, that's easy to answer because Motion Magic just missed the first season of the series that was originally handled by Shanghai Foch Film. However, in 2021; Tencent Penguin Pictures revealed that the first season of the series is getting a reboot called Battle Through The Heavens: The Origin, and finally, Motion Magic is getting into it. Of all the Motion Magic works in Battle Through The Heavens, my favorite is definitely the newest one – Dou Po Cangqiong: San Nian Zhi Yue (Battle Through The Heavens: Three Years Covenant) which visits the first climax of the story in the donghua adaptation, the battle of Xiao Yan and Nalan The extremely strong Yanran, and the shock of the balance of power gained from Jia Ma when the Greed finally appeared in the donghua that was Yun Shan and Queen Medusa.
2. Martial universe
Wu Dong Qian Kun | Here are my early favorites from Motion Magic. The first season of Martial Universe really caught my attention. As a donghua that has been adapted from another novel by Heavenly Silkworm Potato (author of Battle Through The Heavens), I am optimistic about the Martial Universe and all the antics it brings to the table. In the beginning, Martial Universe really excelled in combat scenes and that's when I thought that Motion Magic had potential. Donghua was first released in 2019 and at that time there were only a few series with that quality of animation and production. Thus, it really stands out. Motion Magic also re-animates Martial Universe Season 2 which premiered in 2020 with the same quality as the first season, although the story is quite rushed. However, for the sake of Battle Through The Heavens, the production of Martial Universe has been moved to another studio, however, there is no doubt that seasons 1 and 2 are among the best works of Shanghai Motion Magic.
3. The Great Ruler (Da Zhuzai (2022)
Lastly, the Heavenly Silkworm Potato novel trilogy will be animated by Motion Magic, the last of the 3 novels, and is scheduled for release in 2022 from iQIYI. This is the 2nd donghua adaptation of the novel. The first donghua adaptation is in 2019 and in 2D. Now,it will be released in the 3D and with a new set of teams in tow. We're really excited for this because The Great Ruler shares the same universe as Battle Through The Heavens and the Martial Universe.
4. Dragon Prince Yuan (Yuan Zun)
Adapted from another novel from Heavenly Silkworm Potato, Dragon Prince Yuan is one of Tencent's upcoming line of donghuas. It also promises to share the same antics as the rest of Motion Magic's works and we can all expect exciting battles from this upcoming donghua.
5. Legend Of Soldier (Xiao Bing Chuanqi)
Adapted from a novel by author Xuan Yu, this is the first sci-fi donghua by Motion Magic and in collaboration with Tencent Penguin Pictures
